One School One Book
Cheam Elementary is pleased to launch our school book club, called “One School, One Book” once more. The book selected for this year is Nuts to You by Lynne Rae Perkins. Each Cheam family will receive a complimentary copy of the book. Below, you will find audio recordings of each chapter, read by Cheam staff, as well as optional activities to do at home with your family.
Nuts to You is about squirrels named Jed, TsTs, and Chai, who are the very best of friends. So, when Jed is snatched up by a hawk and carried away to another realm, his friends resolve to go after him. New communities are discovered, new friends are made, huge danger is encountered, and the mysteries of squirrel culture are revealed. (Did you know squirrels are steadfast and fun-loving?) Nuts to You is illustrated in black-and-white on every page by the author and includes an introduction, an epilogue, and funny footnotes throughout. It is a lively, thought-provoking story about the power of friendship and the importance of community. Please flip to the back for activities.
With the “One School, One Book” program, we aim to foster a community of readers within our school. Everyone- students, parents, teachers, and other staff will be participating, and we can all reap the benefits.
Throughout February and March, families are encouraged to read together each night (approximately 15 minutes). A copy of the reading schedule can be found below. Each week, students will be invited to answer trivia questions to encourage attentive listening while your family is reading together. They can submit the answers to these questions to the library every Friday to be entered to win a prize! You will soon find that your child takes pride in knowing and anticipating the details of the story. I will post the questions here and via the PAC emails.
